The Iris reverse osmosis (RO) system is designed to provide 25l to 40l per day depending on water pressure. It is perfect for small to medium sized hydroponic set-ups. It is important to remember that the Iris water purification system does not use any filters. The Iris RO system purifies water through reverse osmosis using a semi-permeable membrane. Filters collect impurities while membranes separate and reject impurities in a separate stream.
The Iris RO system uses state of the art semi-permeable membranes. A membrane is a thin plastic that has molecular sized pores engineered into it. These pores are so small they only allow water molecules to pass through, while rejecting up to 99% of all dissolved solids and 100% of harmful suspended matter including bacteria, viruses and other pathogens.
The driving force behind the Iris RO system is your home water pressure. There is no heat, light or electricity required to make the Iris RO system work.
The purified water (permeate) collects on one side of the membrane, and is stored in your reservoir.
The rejected material (concentrate) remains on the outside of the membrane and is continuously washed down the drain with a small amount of water. The constant motion of the water being flushed through the unit actually helps to keep the surface of the membrane clean and extends the life of the membrane.
The Iris RO system has been developed by some of the worlds leading scientists in the membrane field. The Iris reverse osmosis system is the most advanced and efficient reverse osmosis system, providing the consumer with the most cost effective water purifier on the market.
Typical reverse osmosis systems must not be used with hard water sources. The Iris system can be purchased with a special pre-filter that treats the water going into the system. Thus the Iris system can be used to purify water from hard water sources.
